Nails :: Tips

Electric sanders such as the Dremel, Peticure or Pedipaws are the easiest way to clip your doggie's nails. With traditional nail clippers, cutting too close is an easy mistake. These alternatives sand or grind the nails, allowing them to be shaped.

Here are some tips on using them.
  • Before trimming, allow your doggie time to adjust to the sander's sound. Turn it on several times, allow him to explore the instrument without use.
  • Use the lowest speed and keep the session time short.
  • Just do a little of the nail at a time and move on to the next.
  • Avoid heat build up by limiting the sander to under 2 seconds per nail.
  • Hold back toe fur so that it does not intertwine in the filer.
  • If you have a long hair dog then hold the hair around the nails back so it does become tangled in the sander.

For an added treat, apply doggied nail polish and decals to your doggies nails.
