Having a new baby? A baby not only changes your life, it changes your doggie's life as well. Just as you would prepare an older child to feelings of being left out or abandoned, your doggie needs to be ready for the adjustment as well.

Socialization with children is the best way to prepare your doggie fo the change. Let the children Start slow first letting your doggie watch the children at play. Talk to him, praise him for not barking or not hiding. Let a child approach slowly, extending the back of his hand to your doggie to smell. Take the process slowly and over many days and weeks until your doggie associates children as people - not threats.

Getting your doggie accustomed to children will not only reduce the stress of the new arrival, but will help him see the baby as part of the family, a member to protect.
